Ten Commands from God

Commandment 10 · Be content

When their good fortune feels like your loss

A neighbour chooses a warm greeting rather than resentful comparison.

Your neighbour’s house, marriage, and financial ease have become the story you rehearse against your own life. You do not merely admire what they have. You want it to be yours, and you resent them for possessing it. Their ordinary happiness now feels like an offence they have committed against you.

Start with what God says
Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.Exodus 20:17 · King James Version
Choose your response

What are you demanding from someone else’s life?

Choose the response you are prepared to defend. Then examine the cost.

Where the command is violated

Name the wrong

Nurturing a possessive, resentful desire for another person’s goods or spouse.

What obedience looks like

Act with integrity

Respecting another person’s life and cultivating contentment within your own.

Understand the command

Read beyond the excuse

The text names a neighbour’s house, wife, household, and possessions. Aspiration is not the same as a demand to possess what is theirs.

Make the next step concrete

What will change after this page?

Complete this sentence honestly: “I resent them because…” Then identify one act of gratitude, one act of goodwill, and one comparison habit you will stop feeding.
