Commandment 4 · Remember the sabbath

Your calendar is full. Are you?

A student sets aside a crowded schedule for a quiet moment.

School, shifts, sport, messages, homework. Every gap becomes another demand. You have begun treating worship and rest as wasted time. In Exodus 20, God gives Israel a seventh-day sabbath. Christians differ in applying this command, but the text will not let us pretend that holiness and rest are meaningless.

Start with what God says

Read the full commandment · Exodus 20:8–11 · KJV
Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

What needs to change in the schedule?

There is a cost behind every answer. Choose one to examine it.

Where the command is violated

The line crossed

Dismissing the holy rest God commanded.

What obedience looks like

The better decision

Taking the passage seriously and making a thoughtful plan in your Christian community.

Understand the command

Do not miss the distinction

The KJV names the seventh day. This lesson does not replace that wording with Sunday or settle differences among Christians.

Take it into your week

Prepare before the pressure

Audit one week. Mark obligations you cannot control, choices you can change, and one conversation needed to protect time for rest and worship.
